Today’s society generates waste at a rate far greater than its ability to make it disappear or integrate it back into natural cycles.

Within this large amount of waste that we accumulate, organic matter occupies a prominent place. This is because their composition is the basis of the food of many living beings that maintain the balance of ecosystems.

Organic wastes are those that can degrade naturally through the action of biological processes. such as vegetable or animal wastes. Depending on their origin, these are classified as agricultural waste, livestock waste, agri-food waste (derived from food production) and urban waste.

Sometimes this organic matter is discarded and abandoned, and its lack of treatment has a serious environmental impact that must be corrected or minimized. Therefore, in line with the new European directive (2008/98/EC), we are working to promote and prioritize the recovery and recycling of this waste over disposal and isolation. Our objective is to obtain products with the necessary quality to be able to substitute different raw materials.

How is the treatment of organic waste carried out?

Organic wastes can be used to produce animal feed, generate renewable energy or organic fertilizers for agricultural crops.

At ProCycla we help our customers to make the most of their organic waste and give them value with sustainable solutions such as composting, biogas production or the use of biofiltration (biological filters).

Composting transforms waste into compost through natural decomposition processes involving oxygen and specific microorganisms. The resulting product provides nutrients to the soil, such as nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, calcium and other minerals.

On the other hand, through anaerobic digestion or fermentation, waste can be transformed into biogas (a mixture of methane, carbon dioxide and other gases). It can be used to generate electricity, thermal energy or biofuel. In addition, the liquid part obtained during biogas production can be used to obtain high quality compost.

ProCycla has experience in engineering and technical aspects of waste treatment in the agricultural sector and a broad knowledge of the legislative framework. This allows us to advise companies in the choice of the best solution taking into account their resources and their sector of activity.

Sewage treatment

The environmental impact of waste generated in sectors such as the agri-food industry often also results in the production of large quantities of wastewater with high organic load, nutrients and suspended solids.

The direct discharge of this wastewater into urban sewage systems often causes problems in the operation of wastewater treatment plants. For this reason, treatment is usually required at the facilities that generate them, which are subject to the corresponding control and regulation by the competent administrations, which establish the pertinent authorizations.

Our team has experience in the design of solutions for the degradation of liquid pollutants such as worm filters. It is a simple and efficient technology that does not require chemicals or complex equipment to operate.

Gas treatment

We treat pollutant gases using specialized biofilters based on specific bacterial consortia that we isolate and cultivate in a laboratory.

In gas biofiltration, microorganisms are responsible for the biological degradation of volatile pollutants present in contaminated air.

For proper gas treatment, we first identify the gas component to be removed (e.g. hydrogen sulfide) and select the relevant biofilters, i.e. biological filters that act in several stages until the pollutant is completely removed.

Biofilters are a more economical, practical and smaller solution compared to other conventional systems.
